Over the past few days, I've been enjoying these European film productions on dvd:

• "Congo river" (Thierry Michel, 2006) http://www.congo-river.com/ ... not just for the Yangambi bit (which once again illustrates Belgium's metamorphosis into inertia)
• "Happy-go-lucky" (Mike Leigh, 2007, feat. Sally Hawkins) http://www.happy-go-lucky-movie.co.uk/ ... top simplicity & great acting (that driving instructor)
• "Adieu l'ami" (Jean Herman, 1967, feat. Alain Delon & Charles Bronson) http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adieu_l'ami ... becomes ever more stylish as the film progresses ... like a pop art Melville (though not quite Bava) ... smashin' - YEAH !

And earlier this year:

• "La pointe courte" (Agnès Varda, 1955) http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Pointe_courte ... way before la Nouvelle Vague !
• "Le bonheur" (Agnès Varda, 1964) http://www.cine-tamaris.com/article.php?id=3950 ... an idyllic take on bourgeois morality à la "Bof" (Faraldo came second)
• "Max et les ferailleurs" (Claude Sautet, 1971, mit der Piccoli & la Schneider) http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_et_les_Ferrailleurs ... Sautet is soooo underrated
• "Monsieur Klein" (Joseph Losey, 1976, with a very committed Alain Delon) http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsieur_Klein ... up to a par with Alain Resnais' "Providence" masterpiece (1977), which I'm sure was influenced by it - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Providence_(film)
• "Nuit noire" (Olivier Smolders, 2005) http://www.smolderscarabee.be/nuit_noire.htm ... the other side of Yangambi (blogpost illustration taken from this film)
• (+ see also http://snaporaz.posterous.com/best-films-of-the-past-decade as I'm sure I'm forgetting some)

But most of all, I've enjoyed this dreamy, Summery Polish film, when I saw it at the Muhka Cinematek (now Cinema Zuid) last January: "Sztuczki (Tricks)" …
